Darryl Kramer’s medical journey has been one of courage, hope, and resilience. In 2014, she was diagnosed with a rare cancer that affects smooth muscle tissue. Her cancer eventually spread from her uterus to her lungs. She had multiple surgeries and other treatments to slow her cancer, but she needed another option.
Darryl sought out Lipson Cancer Institute, with its multi-faceted approach and extensive network of providers and facilities.
With her medical team’s guidance, Darryl was able to participate in an out-of-state clinical trial. As a result, she started a new treatment and has noticed an improvement in her condition. As she says, “every little bit buys me more time.”
The care and attention from Lipson Cancer Institute helped Darryl through the mental hurdles of her illness and gave her the encouragement she needed.
“Two years ago,” Darryl said, “I was ready to give up on fighting cancer. My doctor found hope for me and added years to my life. My cancer has a prognosis of two to five years. I’ve lived nine years so far and I’m still fighting.”
Although her cancer journey isn’t over, Darryl takes comfort in the advanced care provided through Rochester Regional Health. She’s looking forward to taking up her favorite hobby of painting again and enjoying each precious day she’s been given.
